FROM JOLIE:
Every Sunday in January, I’m woodshedding new material at an intimate, out of the way venue in Brooklyn, NY. We wanted to have a cozy place to experiment with the songs for the next record. The new songs are largely improvisational, so I wanted to have shows in order to let them come together in a natural way. In the past I’ve had to record brand new material that hasn’t had time to be played, so I wanted to remedy that situation. This is the largest ensemble I’ve ever put together, with some of my favorite musicians in the world. There are a lot of us– seven all told, including two drummers–Dan Rieser and Justin Veloso, Indigo Street (electric guitar,) Doug Wieselman (electric guitar, clarinets,) Tim Luntzel (bass,) and Patrick Holmes on clarinet. I’ll be singing and playing guitar, piano, and violin. We come from backgrounds encompassing the worlds of experimental, rock, jazz, noise, and traditional American music.
